Smile, you’re on Candid Camera! Any photographer will know how tricky it can be to capture a spontaneous natural smile on camera, rather than the artificial ‘say cheese’ variety. Well, Sony’s new Handycam is the world’s first ever camcorder to feature Smile Shutter, a clever feature that automatically takes 7.6-megapixel photos whenever anyone smiles while you’re recording a movie. So there’s no need to press the shutter button or interrupt the action. The ‘Smile Sensitivity’ can be adjusted to recognise anything from a gentle smile to a beaming grin. And if you switch Smile Shutter to ‘Always On’, it’ll even grab photos while in standby mode. In addition to this nifty feature, the HDR-CX11E is packed with top Sony imaging technology. It offers Full HD 1920x1080 video recording on a removable Memory Stick – up to 85 minutes on the supplied 4GB one. Its Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* lens features a 12x optical zoom and Optical SteadyShot image stabilisation to counter camera shake. D-range Optimiser technology automatically adjusts exposure and contrast to maximise shadows and highlight detail in tricky high-contrast scenes. The high-quality images are accompanied by 5.1 channel surround sound recording, with a zoom microphone to minimise background noise. ![]()
